A national platform for STEM students from underrepresented groups to present research and network with STEM professionals from academia, industry, and government at the annual GMiS Conference poster competition.
The GMiS Research Poster Competition, organized annually by Great Minds in STEM, is a premier national platform designed for undergraduate and graduate STEM students from underrepresented groups. It allows students to present individual, unclassified research through poster presentations at the GMiS Conference. The competition fosters networking between students and STEM professionals from academia, industry, and government, enhancing professional development and increasing awareness of the impact of STEM research.
Preparation involves several months of research and poster development. The competition presentations span 2-3 days during the GMiS Conference, with poster sessions typically lasting several hours each day.
Judging is performed by STEM professionals from industry, academia, and government. Entries are scored based on originality, research quality, clarity of communication to a mixed technical/lay audience, poster design, and presentation skills. Presentations are evaluated live during the competition sessions. Only individual, unclassified research is accepted. Winners are selected based on their overall score and may receive monetary prizes and recognition at the Student Leadership Awards.
