An in-person, grade-specific science competition for grades 1-6 covering the Universe, Plants, and Animals through a 40-minute multiple-choice exam. Held at six Bay Area locations, top scorers earn medals and compete in a final round.
The Bay Area Science Championship is an annual in-person science competition organized by Bay Area Champion for students in grades 1 through 6. It aims to cultivate curiosity, scientific thinking, and a love for discovery among young learners. The contest features a 40-minute multiple-choice exam covering topics in the Universe, Plants, and Animals. Top scorers receive medals, certificates, and advance to a final championship round, fostering STEM excellence in the Bay Area.
Preparation: Variable depending on student's pace; typically 2-4 weeks for study. Competition day: Approximately 1 hour including check-in, test (40 minutes), and wrap-up.
The competition is scored by awarding +1 mark for each correct answer; there are no penalties for incorrect or unanswered questions. Each grade level competes separately to ensure fairness. The top 3 scorers in each grade at each location earn medals and achievement certificates. The first-place winners from each location are invited to the final round to compete for the Bay Area Science Champion title and runner-up placements. All participants receive certificates of participation.
