About the competition

Patriot’s Pen is an essay competition for middle school students that encourages them to explore America’s history and express their views on patriotism through a 300-400 word essay based on an annual theme.

Participation Information

Students submit their essays through their local VFW Post. State winners advance to national judging, where the top national winner receives a $5,000 scholarship.
