Project Green Challenge is a 30-day virtual global environmental competition by Turning Green for students aged 16-25, featuring daily eco-themed challenges, online submissions, daily prizes, and a finalist summit with a $5,000 grand prize in San Francisco.
Project Green Challenge (PGC) is a global 30-day online climate action competition organized annually by Turning Green for students aged 16-25. It engages high school, college, and graduate students worldwide through daily eco-themed challenges that involve creative content submissions such as photos, videos, and writings. The competition aims to educate, empower, and mobilize youth on climate action, environmental justice, and advocacy, culminating in a multi-day in-person Eco Summit in San Francisco for finalists, including a $5,000 grand prize for the top Climate Action Project.
Preparation is minimal but requires daily engagement over 30 days in October. Each day’s challenge requires variable time depending on the activity, typically from 30 minutes to a few hours. The finals summit lasts several days in November for selected finalists.
Participants earn points by completing daily challenges at three levels (Green, Greener, Greenest) with additional extra credit challenges. Deliverables are submitted and scored based on creativity, effort, and impact. Daily prizes are awarded to the top 10 Greener and 10 Greenest submissions. At the competition’s end, up to 14-16 finalists are chosen based on points and quality of submissions to attend the finals. Finalists present their Climate Action Projects, which are judged by a panel of environmental leaders. The champion is selected based on project quality, presentation, and impact, winning the $5,000 Acure Green Award.
