About the competition

The FRA sponsors an annual essay contest that promotes patriotism among youth. Students write a 350-word essay on a topic related to Americanism. The contest advances from local, regional, to national levels.

Participation Information

Students submit essays through a local FRA branch. Winners are selected at the local level and progress to regional and national competitions. Deadline for submissions is December 1.
Open to U.S. students in grades 7-12, including homeschooled students.
$5,000 for 1st place, $2,500 for 2nd place, certificates, and trophies for outstanding essays
