The C-SPAN StudentCam Documentary Competition encourages students to think critically about current issues and create a short (5-6 minute) video documentary related to the theme. The 2025 theme is “Your Message to the President,” inviting students to explore an issue important to them or their community and recommend actions the president should take.

Participation Information
Students may compete individually or in teams of up to three members. They submit their documentaries online by the competition deadline, which is January 20, 2025. Entries must include clips of supporting or opposing C-SPAN video that relate to the chosen topic.
Open to students in grades 6-12 worldwide. Students may compete individually or in teams of up to three members.
$5,000 for 1st place, $3,000 for 2nd place, $1,500 for 3rd place; certificates and national recognition

Access to video recording equipment, editing software, internet access for research, and C-SPAN's video archives.
Judging is based on the quality of the documentary, the depth of research, creativity, inclusion of multiple viewpoints, and the effectiveness of the message.
