The Texas High School Ideas Challenge is a statewide entrepreneurial competition hosted by the McFerrin Center for Entrepreneurship at Texas A&M University. It invites Texas high school students aged 14-18 to pitch innovative business ideas that address real-world problems, fostering entrepreneurial skills and creative thinking. Participants can enter individually or in teams and finalists pitch ideas on campus for cash prizes, encouraging the development of an entrepreneurial mindset.
Preparation: Several weeks to develop and refine the idea and complete the application. Competition day: Approximately 4-6 hours including pitching and awards reception.
Judges evaluate ideas based on creativity, uniqueness, market viability, and the problem-solving value of the idea. Applications must demonstrate the idea's uniqueness, its ability to defend itself against competition, marketplace viability, and attractiveness to customers. Scoring happens in a pre-screen round, and top scores advance to the final pitch event where winners are selected after live presentations and Q&A sessions.
