The Blue Ocean Student Entrepreneur Pitch Competition is the world's largest and most prestigious virtual entrepreneurship contest for high school students globally. Organized by the Blue Ocean Student Entrepreneurs Corporation, a 501c3 nonprofit based in Maryland, it challenges students to create innovative business ideas leveraging Blue Ocean Strategy principles, focusing on uncontested market spaces. Participants develop entrepreneurship skills, access mentorship, and compete for significant cash prizes and global recognition.
Preparation typically takes 2-4 weeks including course completion and pitch development. Competition activities span several months with multiple announcement phases. The live finale event is a few hours long.
Judging is done by seasoned entrepreneurs and business executives worldwide who evaluate submitted pitches based on adherence to Blue Ocean Strategy principles, clarity, originality, feasibility, and creativity. Key blue ocean tools such as Strategy Canvas, Buyer Utility Map, and the Eliminate-Reduce-Raise-Create Grid must be applied. Pitches are scored in multiple rounds narrowing down from Top 100 to Top 30, then Top 10. Cash prizes are awarded to top placements, including regional awards and a Popular Choice Award based on public voting.
