The AATSP Poster Contest is an annual virtual competition run by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese (AATSP) that invites K-12 students studying Spanish or Portuguese to create original culturally-themed posters. It promotes artistic creativity, language skills, and cultural appreciation among young learners, with recognition awarded at local, state, and national levels.
Preparation: 4-8 weeks to create artwork and develop cultural understanding. Submission and judging period spans several months (October to March). Winners announced approximately 1 month after submission window closes.
Posters are judged on creativity, adherence to the annual theme, artistic expression, cultural and linguistic accuracy, and originality. Judging is conducted in stages: local or chapter level, then state level, followed by national evaluation by the Poster Contest Committee and the AATSP Board. Winners are recognized across multiple grade categories and digital versus traditional media categories.
