About the competition

The Ayn Rand Essay Contest offers students the opportunity to explore the philosophical themes presented in Ayn Rand’s novels through essay writing. Multiple contests are held annually, each focused on a different novel, such as “Anthem,” “The Fountainhead,” and “Atlas Shrugged.”

Students choose a contest based on their grade level and select one of the prompts related to the designated novel. Essays are submitted online through the Ayn Rand Institute’s website.
Open to middle school, high school, and college students internationally depending on the specific contest.
$10,000 for 1st place, smaller cash prizes for runners-up, certificates, and recognition
