The Bonnie Plants 3rd Grade Kids Cabbage Program provides third-grade students with a hands-on gardening experience by growing cabbage plants. Each year, Bonnie Plants delivers millions of free cabbage plants to third-grade classes nationwide, allowing students to cultivate their own colossal cabbages. At the end of the growing season, a “best in state” winner is selected from each state to receive a $1,000 scholarship.

1. Register the class online. 2. Distribute cabbage plants to students. 3. Have students grow their cabbages at home or in a school garden. 4. Select a class winner based on the largest and best cabbage. 5. Submit the class winner for a chance to win the state competition and scholarship.
Gardening materials, access to a garden space (home or school), and access to the Bonnie Plants lesson plans for integrating gardening into the curriculum.
Judging is based on the size and quality of the cabbage. Teachers select a class winner, and state winners are chosen based on submitted images and cabbage weights.
