About the competition

The Bennington College Young Writers Award promotes outstanding writing achievement at the high school level. Students in grades 9-12 worldwide are invited to submit entries in one of three categories: poetry, short story, or essay. Winners receive cash prizes and scholarships.

Participation Information

Students submit their entries online by November 1 each year. The competition includes three categories: poetry, short story, and essay. Winners are selected and awarded cash prizes and scholarships.

Writing materials, access to submission guidelines on the Bennington College website.
Judging is based on creativity, originality, and quality of writing. Winners are selected in each category by a panel of judges.
